PayPal seen as trusted partner to Irish Government with unique insight and expertise
Challenge
With more than 1,600 people employed locally, Ireland is a crucial market for online payments provider PayPal. It is vital that PayPal retains a strong relationship with the Irish Government and other key stakeholders. Over the past six years H/Advisors has been providing public affairs and policy support for PayPal’s Head of Government Relations to position PayPal as a trusted partner to Ireland that is supportive of the Irish Government’s efforts to improve the regulation of the EU financial services sector and who has unique insight and expertise to share.
Strategy
Through weekly meetings, a real-time policy tracker and monitoring notes our support ensures PayPal is kept abreast of all relevant Irish political and policy matters. We provide analysis on existing legislation, potential regulatory changes, upcoming bills and policy documents. We also deliver strategic advice on issues such as financial services, payments policy and digitalisation. We also manage a strategic stakeholder engagement programme and provide advice on the importance of key relationships. We use our local connections to arrange meetings, brief PayPal and deal with any follow ups. We have also managed the outreach for several restructuring announcements PayPal has made in relation to Ireland.
Outcome
Our support has helped highlight PayPal’s 20-year history in Ireland and position Ireland as a strategic location for operations in EMEA with key stakeholders. We have supported the Government Relations function to build a network of high-level strong relationships across the Irish Government which can be drawn upon if required. PayPal has been successful in holding several key high-profile national and European political stakeholder meetings and has developed long-lasting and strong relationships with key senior politicians.
